$20.00 - Item#SP107DFLY

Features art nouveau-style dragonfly pendant with faceted Czech glass beads. Necklace measures about 24 inches long, pendant is 2 inches high. Enlarged image, below, to show details. Only one available, handmade in the Monkeyshines studio. The item in the picture is the exact item you will receive. I have made similar items, before, because these pendants are very popular; however, I have a limited number of supplies for these, and each is made with different colors and styles of necklaces. Giftboxed.

Note from Jen: I have long loved the art nouveau, Victorian/Edwardian brass-and-copper style, seen in movies like “Howl’s Moving Castle,” “Wild Wild West,” “Return to Oz,” and the Harry Potter films. Apparently, this style is called “steampunk” and I’ve been inspired to create jewelry along a similar aesthetic. While they are intended to be worn as jewelry, please keep in mind that they are also individual works of art and should be handled with care.

Clockwork charm features steel and brass gears, suspended from a chain of brass and silver-plated links, vintage watch gears, and faceted red Czech glass. Necklace slightly adjustable between 17-18 inches. Clockwork charm is from the inner workings of a Crawford Swiss 17-jewel wrist watch, measures 20mm across. Enlarged image, below, to show details. One-of-a-kind unique creation, handmade in the Monkeyshines studio.

Note from Jen: The steampunk jewelry takes me longer to create than other pieces, partly because I have to hunt for appropriate materials, and partly because these designs are more complex and unusual than my other jewelry. Materials may include vintage jewelry, clock and watch parts, and one-of-a-kind items from specialty bead stores and estate sales. While they are intended to be worn as jewelry, please keep in mind that they are also individual works of art and should be handled with care.

Here’s my HEARTFIRE Celtic knot graphic. This is a design I sketched one evening at Tir na nOg Irish Pub. I must have been inspired by the myth, the romance, and the Guinness. Available on shirts, cards, mugs and more at Cafe Press.

Saffron’s “Lassiter Heist” Necklace & Bracelet - SOLD

October 14th, 2007 by monkeyshinesbeadery

ff-saff-heist.jpg

This is a picture of a necklace and bracelet set inspired by the jewelry worn by “Saffron” from the cult TV show FIREFLY, during the Lassiter heist in the episode “Trash.” See pictures from the episode here. I do not currently have these available, but do plan to make more. If you are interested, please contact me. With these pieces, final price depends on the materials I use to make each one, and materials will vary due to what I am able to find. If I use a combination of Czech glass, bone, jade, cinnabar, carnelian, howlite and turquoise, as in the item shown above, the set will cost about $60-$75. I can make a less expensive version using only glass beads, but it will not look as much like the one in the TV show.

See this necklace & bracelet in action, below (click on image for enlargement), purchased by one of my customers for his wife.

Browncoat Christmas cards

October 7th, 2007 by monkeyshinesbeadery

Greeting cards I designed based on the cult TV show FIREFLY. 1) Merry Gorram Christmas. 2) River’s Christmas quote from the episode “Ariel.” 3)”Is it Christmas?” Mal said when he woke up after the “goodnight kiss” in the episode “Our Mrs. Reynolds.”

Elaine Ray just let me know that I was featured on the Art Bead Scene blog.

It’s an interactive blog for bead artists and jewelry designers, with product reviews, monthly creative challenges, and the latest news about the bead scene.

Elaine herself makes some of the beautiful “pieces of earth” (ceramic pendants) which I have turned into magical jewelry for you! Thanks, Elaine!
