Saffron’s brawling “Trash” Necklace

$40.00 - Item #FF002SBTN

Great cosplay, costuming or convention item for Browncoats! It took months of searching to finally find a pendant to match the necklace worn by the sultry villainess “Saffron” from the cult TV show FIREFLY, during the opening scene of the episode “Trash” while she is brawling with Mal (she wears a different necklace later during the Lassiter heist). See pictures from the episode here. But the company that sold these pendants has discontinued them! And the larger brown beads are vintage acrylic that I found in a specialty bead store. I bought as many as I could of the beads and pendants, and I’ve sold several of these necklaces. But now I only have enough materials to make two more. Get it while you can

Please note that this item is made-when-ordered, and depending on my schedule might not be shipped for 4-6 weeks. Making jewelry is only a hobby of mine, not a full-time job, and I typically only get to spend a few hours a week in my studio. - Jen

Pink Bead Necklace

msb-117-pinkbead.jpg

$20.00 - Item#FF117PINK

In addition to finding the same style/color of bead that Kaylee is seen wearing on the cover of the FIREFLY DVD, the second Official Firefly Companion book, and in other FIREFLY promotional pictures, I have also found a type of cord that looks just like hers. It is tan buckskin (made in the USA). I am also making these necklaces adjustable, now, with an extension chain that allows them to be worn anywhere between 16 and 18 inches (as shown in the updated picture, above). This necklace is made when ordered, and I will keep making these for as long as I am able to obtain the beads and materials. Depending on my schedule, it might not be shipped for 4-6 weeks. Making jewelry is only a hobby of mine, not a full-time job, and I typically only get to spend a few hours a week in my studio. - Jen

PLEASE NOTE: Sometimes the pink beads are temporarily out of stock and I’m waiting for more to come in. Please go ahead and order this necklace, but just remember that it might take up to 2 weeks for me to make and ship it. Thanks! Xie xie!

Firefly - The Complete Series Firefly: The Official Companion: Volume Two

Companion Necklace

ff-inara-jt-o15.jpg

Item#FF001INJT - price varies

If you are creating a costume like the one Inara wears in the FIREFLY episode Jaynestown, this is the perfect accessory! The centerpiece hangs 3-1/4 inches. I recommend a 16-inch chain or shorter (because the centerpiece hangs so low) but I can make the chain any length you wish. Made with gold-plated filigree parts, brass chain and black glass beads. I do not have one available at this time, but if you would like to submit a request for this item, please contact me. Price varies due to the availability/cost of materials, but runs around $40. I’m not always able to make one exactly like the sample shown here, but I can come up with something close to the original as possible. Please note that this item is made-when-ordered, and depending on my schedule and availability of materials, might not be shipped for 4-6 weeks or more.

SOLD Inara’s “Jaynestown” earrings

January 2nd, 2008 by monkeyshinesbeadery

msb-018-injt.jpg
$18.00 - Item #FF018INJT

Inspired by the earrings Inara wore in the FIREFLY episode “Jaynestown” when she met Magistrate Higgins. Purple glass drops, balls are vintage filigree beads. See a screenshot of Inara with the earrings here. This pair I made measure 1-3/4 inches long, not including lever-back earwires. Handmade in my private studio. Giftboxed. The COMPANION NECKLACE was worn with the same costume. I will make more, probably not exactly like the ones shown here, but as close as possible to the original. Finding parts is hit-or-miss, so I can only make them when I’m able to find the right materials.

Saffron’s “Lassiter Heist” Necklace & Bracelet - SOLD

October 14th, 2007 by monkeyshinesbeadery

ff-saff-heist.jpg

This is a picture of a necklace and bracelet set inspired by the jewelry worn by “Saffron” from the cult TV show FIREFLY, during the Lassiter heist in the episode “Trash.” See pictures from the episode here. I do not currently have these available, but do plan to make more. If you are interested, please contact me. With these pieces, final price depends on the materials I use to make each one, and materials will vary due to what I am able to find. If I use a combination of Czech glass, bone, jade, cinnabar, carnelian, howlite and turquoise, as in the item shown above, the set will cost about $60-$75. I can make a less expensive version using only glass beads, but it will not look as much like the one in the TV show.

Inara’s “The Message” Necklace

August 21st, 2007 by monkeyshinesbeadery

I’ve found a source for necklaces like the one Inara wore in the opening scene of the Firefly episode “The Message.” It’s called a Victorian Lace necklace and is found at Design Toscano. The one they are selling is black, but it looks like exactly the same pattern as Inara’s (which looks red in the episode). I do not make replicas of this necklace.

Wobbly-headed Geisha Dolls - they do exist!

May 20th, 2007 by monkeyshinesbeadery

For all those FIREFLY fans out there, I found a website selling actual bobble-head geisha dolls, as mentioned in the episode “Trash”:

INARA: What was the last cargo we snuck past the Alliance to transport?

MAL: We made a perfectly good piece -

INARA: What was the cargo?

MAL: They were dolls!

INARA: They were little geisha dolls with big heads that wobbled!

MAL: People love those!

INARA: And what exactly was our net profit on the famous wobbly-headed doll caper?

Kaylee’s Jiangyin gift shop plate from “Safe”

May 11th, 2007 by monkeyshinesbeadery

This will only interest Browncoats, and it has nothing to do with jewelry, but I recently discovered the identity of the oriental plate which Kaylee picks up in the gift shop on Jiangyin in the FIREFLY episode “Safe.” In the episode, Kaylee and Inara leave Serenity to go shopping in a small, rim-world general store. Kaylee talks about getting the plate for Simon as a gift. Simon later comes in and examines the same plate, calling it crap right in front of Kaylee.

The prop they used was a Ko-Ching Beauties of the Red Mansion Limited Edition Collector Plate #9. There are several of these plates available on the internet (just use your favorite search engine), and they sell for $20-$60. It is the from a series of 12 plates by Master Artisan Zhao Huimin which portray the heroines of the classic Chinese romantic novel, “A Dream of Red Mansions” by Hung Lou Meng, written between 1755 and 1790. The plate was produced in 1988. It doesn’t actually say “Jiangyin Prairie Paradise.”

Might be a fun addition to a FIREFLY collection. I’m thinking of getting me one to go next to my buddha statue, with the pony and plastic rocket, and the medal Jayne wore in SERENITY.

SOLD Kaylee’s “Message” Necklace

May 3rd, 2007 by monkeyshinesbeadery

msb-907-message.jpg

Inspired by the necklace worn by the character “Kaylee” in the FIREFLY episode “The Message.” (See picture here.) Wooden beads and orange quartz stone beads. Carved bone pendant features a Chinese dragon and measures 2 inches high. Necklace made by my own hands in my private studio. I have made similar items before, and plan to make more in the future, as this piece is good for sci-fi conventions and cosplay.

See one of my Kaylee Message” necklaces in action by clicking the thumbnails below. This is Mai, who wore her necklace when she met Alan Tudyk and Summer Glau. She told me Summer complimented her on the necklace. Shiny!

Zoe’s necklace

November 18th, 2006 by monkeyshinesbeadery

As best I can tell, it is a long black leather cord wrapped 3 times around her neck, choker-style, then tied in the front (for a total of 4 loops). The ends hang down about 5 inches in the front. In the movie SERENITY, it appears that her choker is made with black bolo tie material (still leather, but with some texture).

I do not make replicas of this necklace because Exoticcatz Firefly shop already makes them, and they are fantastic. Please note: If you click this link, you will be leaving Monkeyshines Beadery and going to someone else’s website.
