This is a one-of-a-kind, handmade, steampunk-inspired clockwork necklace. The pendant was made using the inner clockwork mechanism of a non-working Elgin USA watch, cemented to a brass bezel (enlarged photo, below). It measures 1-inch across, which is a size I don’t come across very often — wrist watches are usually much smaller, and pocket watches much bigger. The necklace, which includes metal chain (I’m told it’s imitation rhodium plated brass, and it has a steel or silver like finish) and brass pipe beads, is adjustable and may be worn up to about 18 inches long. This item was created in my private studio, and there is only one available. Significant resizing smaller or larger is available upon request (put a note in the comment box when ordering). Gift boxed.

Inara’s “Jaynestown” Jewelry

October 23rd, 2008 by monkeyshinesbeadery

msb-108-injt.jpg $20.00 - Item#BC-108INJT

These earrings are based on the earrings worn by the character “Inara” in the cult sci-fi Joss Whedon TV show FIREFLY episode “Jaynestown.” I spent quite a bit of time examining each frame in which the earrings appeared, and have done my best to replicate them with the materials available to me. I have made other pairs of these before, over the years, but I do not know when I will be able to make them again. I have a particularly hard time finding good brass cones and large purple glass beads.

The picture shows exactly the item you will receive, and there is currently only this one pair available. These earrings feature nickel-free brass leverback earwires, purple India glass beads, Czech glass beads, and vintage filigree balls. They measure 1-3/4 inches long, not including the earwires in that measurement. Gift boxed.

Free first class shipping & handling now included with all items! Click here for more information.

Steampunk “Machine” Necklace

October 5th, 2008 by monkeyshinesbeadery

msb-108-machine.jpg $38.00 - Item#SP108MACHINE

This pendant was created using a ceramic bezel made by North Carolina artist Elaine Ray, which is a beige clay painted with an iron-colored glaze, giving it a finish almost like hematite stone. In the center, I’ve set some old pocket watch gears (a brass gear within a steel spring casing), and hung the finished piece from a gunmetal chain, with heavy copper jump rings and a large brass clasp. Pendant measures 1-1/8-inches across, necklace is 20 inches long. Please note that there is one pointy part (in the center of the gear) which might cause injury or get caught on clothing. The gears are cemented with E6000, which is quite secure but not indestructible. Created in my private studio, this item is one of a kind (OOAK) and there is only one available. The picture shows exactly what you will receive. Gift boxed.

Steampunk Airship Ring

October 5th, 2008 by monkeyshinesbeadery

msb-108-brassring2.jpgmsb-108-brassring3.jpg

$45.00 - Item#SP108AIRING

Brass propeller and filigree, mounted on vintage pocket watch gears. The filigree bit was purchased from an antiques dealer, but I have no idea where it originally came from nor how old it is. Propeller does turn when moved by hand, but this ring is otherwise not a machine nor mechanical in any way. Measures 3/4-inch across (images are enlarged to show details), propeller turns within a space of 7/8-inch. Please note that the filigree and gears are not welded to the ring base, they are cemented with E6000, which is quite secure but not indestructible. While every attempt has been made to make it as durable as possible, this item is being sold as a costume piece only — care should be taken not to catch those propellers on clothing or some part of the surrounding environment, as either damage to the ring or to one’s finger will occur. This is brass with a patina, not shiny brass. Polishing is not recommended. Envisioned and constructed in my private studio, this item is one of a kind (OOAK) and there is only one available. The pictures show exactly what you will receive. Gift boxed.

As shown below, the ring is adjustable. If you would prefer me to resize the ring for you, please note your preferred size in the comment box when ordering. It is currently a size 8.

SOLD Steampunk Clockwork Ring

September 19th, 2008 by monkeyshinesbeadery

msb-908-steamring.jpg $30.00 - Item#SP908RING

My first foray into the realm of steampunk ring making, this piece features a 17-jewel wrist watch mechanism mounted on an adjustable brass base, accented with art nouveau filigree. A few of the gears do turn (the winding wheel and crown wheel) when the knob is wound, however it is not a working mechanism and does not tick nor operate in any other way. Measures 3/4-inch across (image is enlarged to show detail). Please note that the filigree and clockwork are not welded to the ring base, they are cemented with E6000, which is quite secure but not indestructible. While every attempt has been made to make it as durable as possible, this item is being sold as a costume piece only. Envisioned and constructed in my private studio, this item is one of a kind (OOAK) and there is only one available. The picture shows exactly what you will receive. Gift boxed.

As shown below, the ring is adjustable. However, I would prefer to size the ring for you prior to shipping, just to make sure that the integrity of the design remains solid. Please note your preferred size in the comment box when ordering. It is currently a size 8.

SOLD “Time Machine” Necklace

September 16th, 2008 by monkeyshinesbeadery

msb-088-timemachine.jpg

This necklace is a one-of-a-kind work of adornment art inspired by the 1960 classic Victorian sci-fi movie “Time Machine,” which itself was based on the H.G. Wells novel. Features faceted Czech glass beads, vintage pocket watch gear, copper and brass beads and findings. Necklace is adjustable between 16 and 17 inches long. Time machine pendant measures 3/4 by 1-inch (enlarged below to show details). Gift boxed.

msb-088-timemachine2.jpg

I don’t know if I would consider this a steampunk piece, but I don’t think it would be out of place with a steampunk or Neo-Victorian costume. All of my pieces are made to the best of my ability, by my own hands, in my private studio. But as with any jewelry, it should not be subjected to rigorous treatment. Pulling, tugging, smashing, yanking, bending, or wearing during vigorous activity (such as at a busy job, hiking, or out dancing) is not recommended. This necklace does have small parts which could potentially catch on other articles of clothing or other jewelry. Please use care when wearing and storing.

Pink Bead Necklace

September 1st, 2008 by monkeyshinesbeadery

msb-117-pinkbead.jpg

$25.00 - Item#FF117PINK

“I just received the pink bead necklace and it’s gorgeous!” — J.Y., July 2008

I have identified the same type of bead that Kaylee is seen wearing on the cover of the FIREFLY DVD, the second Official Firefly Companion book, and in other FIREFLY promotional pictures. The beads are from Italy. I also found a type of cord that looks just like hers. It is tan buckskin (made in the USA). These necklaces are adjustable, with an extension chain that allows them to be worn up to 18 inches.

This is one of the few items on my website that I’ve made several times (most of my other items are one-of-a-kind). I will continue making these for as long as I am able to obtain the beads and materials. Depending on my schedule, and whether I have any necklaces finished or the materials available, this item might not be shipped for 4-6 weeks.

SOLD OUT Saffron’s brawling “Trash” Necklace

June 4th, 2008 by monkeyshinesbeadery

msb-107-saffron-trash-1.jpg

It took months of searching to find a pendant to match the necklace worn by the sultry villainess “Saffron” from the cult TV show FIREFLY, during the opening scene of the episode “Trash” while she is brawling with Mal (she wears a different necklace later during the Lassiter heist). See pictures from the episode here. But the company which sold these pendants has discontinued them. And the larger brown beads are vintage acrylic that I purchased from an elderly woman who had been collecting beads all her life. I bought as many as I could of the beads and pendants, and I’ve sold several of these necklaces. But now they are SOLD OUT. I won’t be able to make any more until I’m able to find similar materials, again.

“Truly stunning” - Comment from a customer who purchased one of these necklaces

Saffron’s “Lassiter Heist” Necklace & Bracelet - SOLD

October 14th, 2007 by monkeyshinesbeadery

ff-saff-heist.jpg

This is a picture of a necklace and bracelet set inspired by the jewelry worn by “Saffron” from the cult TV show FIREFLY, during the Lassiter heist in the episode “Trash.” See pictures from the episode here. I do not currently have these available, but do plan to make more. If you are interested, please contact me. With these pieces, final price depends on the materials I use to make each one, and materials will vary due to what I am able to find. If I use a combination of Czech glass, bone, jade, cinnabar, carnelian, howlite and turquoise, as in the item shown above, the set will cost about $60-$75. I can make a less expensive version using only glass beads, but it will not look as much like the one in the TV show.

See this necklace & bracelet in action, below (click on image for enlargement), purchased by one of my customers for his wife.
