Everyone’s a hero in their own way… but mostly Captain Hammer! This is my very first foray into the realm of polymer clay, inspired by Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. I used Fimo and created my own cane, yay! (Well, it wasn’t much of a “cane” — I only got a few usable pendants out of it.) I know I’ve got a lot to learn, but I think the result is still pretty fun!

I have ONE ladies necklace with the yellow beads (shown here), and ONE ladies necklace with a slightly different bead embellishment. The ladies is on 18-inch black cotton cord with a clasp. I have TWO gents necklaces, which come on thicker 20-inch black cotton cord with clasp, no beads. The pendants and the necklaces are all handmade by me. This pendant was created using a ceramic bezel made by North Carolina artist Elaine Ray, which is a beige clay painted with an iron-colored glaze, giving it a finish almost like hematite stone. In the center, I’ve set some old pocket watch gears (a brass gear within a steel spring casing), and hung the finished piece from a gunmetal chain, with heavy copper jump rings and a large brass clasp. Pendant measures 1-1/8-inches across, necklace is 20 inches long. Please note that there is one pointy part (in the center of the gear) which might cause injury or get caught on clothing. The gears are cemented with E6000, which is quite secure but not indestructible. Created in my private studio, this item is one of a kind (OOAK) and there is only one available. “I just received the pink bead necklace and it’s gorgeous!” — J.Y., July 2008

I have identified the same type of bead that Kaylee is seen wearing on the cover of the FIREFLY DVD, the second Official Firefly Companion book, and in other FIREFLY promotional pictures. The beads are from Italy. I also found a type of cord that looks just like hers. It is tan buckskin (made in the USA). These necklaces are adjustable, with an extension chain that allows them to be worn up to 18 inches.

This is one of the few items on my website that I’ve made several times (most of my other items are one-of-a-kind). I will continue making these for as long as I am able to obtain the beads and materials. Depending on my schedule, and whether I have any necklaces finished or the materials available, this item might not be shipped for 4-6 weeks.

Too often, I think jewelry artists get carried away with making pieces more and more complex and expensive, and they forget about casual style, comfort and affordability. This cute necklace features glass beads and a Christensen furnace glass heart (made in the USA). I wish I could get a picture of the side of the heart, the colors run through the glass, which is 1/4-inch thick. The heart is 5/8-inch high. Necklace is adjustable around 19 inches long. A gear-operated guardian angel… This is the second angel charm necklace that I’ve made with brass-finish pewter wings, faceted translucent glass beads, and tiny gears from a broken wrist watch. The centerpiece of this necklace is a Hill Tribe Silver bead with floral patterns, complemented with pink and brown ceramic beads and more Hill Tribe Silver beads. Hill Tribe Silver is made by the Karen Hill Tribe in northern Thailand using traditional tribal methods passed down from generation to generation, and has a higher silver content than sterling (which is 92.5% silver), so is more resistant to tarnish. Necklace measures just over 16 inches long (choker length), with sterling silver clasp and ends, on double strand of brown leather. This is a one-of-a-kind steampunk “Tea Time” necklace, assembled with new and vintage materials, in mixed metals (copper, brass and silver). I designed and created this piece using pocket watch parts, faceted Czech glass beads, brass chain, clock charm, teapot and teacup charms, brass Victorian-style hand, and other findings. Adjustable between about 15 and 17 inches long. Typewriter style letter charms measure 3/4-inch across. Enlarged photo shows details.
