SOLD Spacepunk Bracelet IV

A combination of red & black stones, hematite, Czech glass, hardware, vintage jewelry parts, chain, and European silver-plated wire. Slightly adjustable around 7-1/2 inches long. A one-of-a-kind unique creation, handmade in the Monkeyshines studio.
I’m not entirely sure if the term “spacepunk” applies, but I’m going to go with it, because it’s inspired by two of my loves — STEAMPUNK and FIREFLY (a sci-fi cult-classic western set, mostly, in space). When I create these pieces, I like to think that they’re somewhat like something Kaylee would make during a long space journey, using parts laying around the floor of Serenity’s engine room!
Can’t Stop The Serenity 2008
June 11th, 2008 by monkeyshinesbeaderyOrders might be delayed between now until June 24, because I am the captain of the third annual “Can’t Stop the Serenity” charity fund-raising event in Raleigh, NC, for Equality Now on June 22 and 23. This is a big event, run entirely by volunteers, and for which we are selling 400 tickets. In 2006 and 2007, with only one night per year, we raised more than a total of $5,200.00 for EN, which fights against such things as female genital mutilation, sex trafficking, and domestic violence, worldwide. This year, we’re expanding to two nights and adding several new features. There will be a costume contest, trivia contest, Joss Whedon birthday party, Mal’s shooting gallery, movie prop on display, souvenir sales, raffle, free giveaways, beer, wine, dinner, and more!

SOLD: Steampunk Clockwork Heart Necklace

One-of-a-kind steampunk clockwork heart necklace assembled with new and vintage materials. I designed and created this piece using pocket watch and wrist watch parts, faceted Czech glass beads, brass chain, copper wire, brass heart charm, brass tubes, and other findings. The necklace is 18 inches long, and the heart in the center measures 1-3/8 inches high by 1-3/8 across (at its widest point). Enlarged photo below shows details.

Wells, the Victorian period, la Belle Epoque, Edwardian era, art nouveau, and movies like ‘Howl’s Moving Castle,’ ‘Wild Wild West,’ ‘Return to Oz,’ ‘Stardust,’ the Harry Potter films, ‘Time Machine,’ ‘Somewhere in Time,’ and ‘Time After Time.’ For a decade, I’ve been making jewelry inspired by art nouveau and earlier eras, and designing jewelry using vintage or found materials. But I didn’t officially start making “Steampunk” jewelry until last year, when a friend of mine told me that there was a name for this sort of thing!

Browncoat Earrings

Brass pistol and Chinese coin charms capture the spirit of FIREFLY fans everywhere! When I got my copy of the Firefly: The Official Companion: Volume Two, I saw that the back cover features a pistol and coins just like these, but I was already making these earrings before the book came out! Earrings measure 1-1/4 inches long, not including brass leverback earwires. Image slightly enlarged to show detail. These also feature faceted brown Czech glass accents. Each is handmade in my private studio. These are slightly different from the previous Browncoat earrings I was making — the coins are lightweight replicas perfect for earrings (not too heavy), less expensive, and easier to use, which has allowed me to lower the price quite a bit. Most of my jewelry is one-of-a-kind, but this is one of the few items where I do make several of the same design. Giftboxed.
Please note that this item is made-when-ordered, and depending on my schedule might not be shipped for 4-6 weeks. Making jewelry is only a hobby of mine, not a full-time job, and I typically only get to spend a few hours a week in my studio. - Jen

One-of-a-kind steampunk necklace assembled with new and vintage materials. I designed and created this piece using pocket watch and wrist watch parts, a faceted Czech glass bead, leather, brass chain, brass dragonfly charm, propeller, heart and key charms, and other findings. The round piece in the center measures 1-1/2 inches across.
All of my jewelry is made to the best of my ability, but please understand that the Steampunk pieces in particular are also costume pieces and works of art, made with vintage materials, and as such should not be subjected to rigorous treatment. Pulling, tugging, smashing, yanking, bending, or wearing during vigorous activity (such as at a busy job or out dancing) is not recommended. Pieces should be stored carefully when not in use.

Swirls and spirals are a common motif in Celtic and ancient Irish art. Some well-known examples are Newgrange and the Book of Kells. Niamh (pronounced “neev”) is a fairy queen in Irish mythology who fell in love with a mortal and kept him with her in the land of Tir na nOg for 300 years.
